Sigiria Gate

I’ve always loved being outdoors. And having people, around me, who know how to enjoy themselves is a bonus. Being outdoors is fun, and yet healthy. It’s good for us mentally, physically and spiritually.

Yesterday I went to karura forest like I usually I do. This time around, going to Karura forest was different we joined @amuse_ke at the camping site Sigiria gate. They provide children with opportunities to experience, discover, socialize and improve motor skills. My niece and nephew join in on their activities. I loved how friendly and interactive they were with the kids.

I began my adventure for the day, with renting a bike which costed 500ksh. It’s better to bring your own though. While I was riding the bike, I had flashbacks of how I had learnt to ride a bike. 6 years old me, the friendly family relative who came to pay us a short visit, hands me a brand new bike as a gift. He called it a little gift but at that time the bike was massive deal to me and my friends. I could barely reach the paddles. I kept trying and trying to learn how to ride it on my own. I spent hours riding in circles in our back garden.

The cultural norm here, in the Somali community, is that ladies riding bikes is frowned upon. Thankfully my sister, Amina solved my concerns and she took her Children and I to Karura forest.
For the past five years I’ve been riding here happily. This forest has been a blessing to us in so many ways.

To my readers may you be blessed enough to keep those who make you happy, and the things that fill your cup near.
