New change

I must say I noticed that ‘travel is the only thing that you can buy that makes you richer’. I’ve noticed this while finishing 1st year of school in Nairobi. I think it was natural for me to ally with my new home so well. This year ended with more things changing than I anticipated at the beginning of the year.

Traveling to Nairobi was a fun experience I had. The best part of it all was being inside Kenya airways. Their service was faster compared to Delta. I can’t actually remember the dishes that I had but I remember the juices that were served. It was sweet and rich even the aftertaste was tasty. Just before I landed that morning the sunrise was raising it was absolutely stunning. It was the first time seeing it from such a high view.

My first day here was odd like all new places. Initially, my thought of living in Nairobi was I’d be living in a hut, waking up to camels peeking through my window while the cows and goats chew on the edges of the hut. Fortunately, none of my predictions came true.

In Kenya the language commonly used is Swahili which is also known as Kiswahili, is a Bantu language and the first language of the Swahili people who live here. It’s cultural diverse place with so many different tribes and unique cultures.

The buildings aren’t so big here, neither are they small. You can actually really enjoy time here if you know where to go. Luckily, my older siblings lived in Nairobi for some time now so they know good places. There is a variety of different ways to get to your destination and you could choose to ride a matatu, train, pikipiki or even a tuktuk.

The first Kenyan dish I had was ugali. Ugali is mostly liked by Kenyans. Ugali is a stiff porridge made out of maize flour which is eaten with vegetable like cabbages / spinach and soup. A salad dish commonly eaten with Ugali is Kachumbari. Kachumbari is chopped tomatoes and onions salad dish. In the street eggs are sold with Kachumbari. The egg is boiled and cut in the middle then a spoon full of kachumbari is put in between them and chili pepper sprinkled on top.

Kenya was a new change for me as it was the only country in all the counties Ive been that was different from what I was used to seeing. I’m glad for the moments that were weird funny and amazing hope this year I discover more . To my readers remember to collect moment not things.
