Fleeting moments

You ever get taken back from a shockingly amazing experience? I felt this way the moment I dived into this river inside the cave. It was simply luxurious to me. Daraca Ya Ngai (God’s Bridge) was named after a contractor hired a man to construct a bridge across the Nyamindi river in Kirinyaga County at the same spot where the landmark stood for years. When he began to do the work all his buildings materials got swept away by a heavy rain. The people of Kirinyaga reply to the man that didn’t know what to make of the situation was “Do Not Touch Daraca ya ngai (Gods Bridge)”

I woke up early to group travel and witness a breathtaking waterfall and cave amidst the forests. The ride was lovely we chatted and laughed through the journey. It cheered up my soul. Our vehicle that travelled all across Africa slowly crept through the falls entrance after making two pit stops for us to buy food and snacks for the hike. It was parked in a beautiful roadside. I took a deep breath and felt the brisk forest air fill my lungs. I could see patches of blue sky visible through the trees. The hike to the cave was short. It was exhilarating to see it. The cave was small and rocks covered the space, giving the feeling that it might close up at any moment.

After spending time in the cave I went to see the waterfalls. I made my way slowly up the trail, mindful of every stone in my path. The powerful sound of the waterfall grew louder as I approached the first overlook. It was growling and rumbling. The three waterfalls streamed into one infinity pool of bliss. It was white in colour and drizzled onto the grey-brown rocks. It felt refreshing to dip my feet in the water after the hike. I stood still for a while to feel the water rush past my feet. Slowly walking deeper into the water, the ground below my feet fell away. The water was freezing and I was shaking with the cold. A minute later I adjusted to the waters temperature and swam freely. I was floating.

We sat under mango trees and enjoyed our meal with the rest of the hikers. After what felt like a dream was coming to an end we headed back to our vehicle. Everything for the hike was perfect and perfectly arranged. I’m grateful for the mind-blowing experience. Thanks to the MMJ team and of course my fellow hikers for this memorable experience. I have gone on several trips with several different group of friends and I always had a good time. For trip to go smoothly you need everyone to be flexible with others. Sometimes things you like might not be so likable to others and vice-versa.

Thiba falls sure is a place to have the time of your life. Both the river in the cave and the waterfall have many rocks some on the surface and other deep down in the water. If you don’t be careful you could end up cutting yourself like I did. I’d recommend you wear leathered sandals to avoid any injuries. Another important thing is always stick with your hike team and bring water.
